Recruiting Allies of Color
Within our community, there is a group of vulnerable citizens whose plight oftentimes goes unseen and unheard. These members of our community need strong voices to speak up for them. They are children of color in foster care. Children enter foster care at no fault of their own and become stuck in a complicated system with bias all around them. Racial disproportionality is a real and serious issue in our foster care system. Heart of Missouri CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains and supports volunteers who advocate for children in foster care. During this presentation, we will speak about the issue of disproportionality within the local foster care system, how as an agency we are trying to help children caught in this situation, and how you can be a part of making change in our community with this issue. Let’s have a conversation about bringing awareness to the issue of systematic racism and how you can help.
