About the position

At VU, we help Veterans buy homes. We also help introduce  multicultural students and student Veterans to the mortgage industry  through our Diversity summer internship, Immersion. Immersion is a  rigorous and fast-paced program with various tracks available in  multiple departments, as well as a project related to a start-up  nonprofit focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives.


This  paid internship provides housing in Columbia, Missouri. Columbia is a  fast-growing community with a vibrant art, music, culinary, and theater  scene. The city has a strong sport and outdoor community, including an  abundance of trails and parks, and has been named one of the best cities  in the nation to live in for multiple years in a row. Veterans United  has been recognized as #23 on the 2019 Best Companies to Work For list  by Fortune Magazine and #28 on the 2019 Companies that Care list by People Magazine.


As an Immersion intern, you have the potential to be placed in one of these areas:

Note: The Immersion program is only offered during the summer months and you must be available for the program in its entirety.


Immersion  provides you with an opportunity to make a difference. You’ll also  experience some of the perks of a full-time employee, such as personal  and professional development, free snacks, casual dress code, monthly  massages, and company-wide social events. Immersion interns enjoy  special development sessions including an etiquette dinner, golf, and  numerous opportunities to impact the community through volunteer  efforts.


As an intern, you will be hands-on and gain experience  applicable to your career goals. You’ll be expected to take direction  and incorporate feedback from your mentors and should proactively  identify opportunities for you to support the team.


Job duties will vary upon assignment but may include:

  • Providing general administrative assistance and support

  • Learning and mastering assigned operations of your department

  • Assisting team members with assorted tasks

  • Identifying areas of process improvement

  • Preparing and pitching an innovative proposal to company leadership
